Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil until shimmering. Add 1 pound of ground beef, seasoning it with salt and pepper. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until it's evenly browned.
  2. Once the meat is fully cooked, carefully drain the excess grease from the skillet. Transfer the browned meat into your slow cooker.
  3. In the slow cooker with the beef, add 1 cup of tomato sauce, 1/2 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 tablespoon of prepared mustard, and 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika. Stir well.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on HIGH for 3 hours or LOW for 6 hours.
  5. Check the consistency before serving. If runny, simmer with the lid off for an additional 15-20 minutes. Spoon the mixture onto hamburger buns and top with cheese if desired.
  6. Serve hot with your choice of sides, such as fries or salad.
