Method

BBQ Sauce Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine your favorite BBQ sauce, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup. Stir well to combine and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes fragrant.
Vegetables Sauté
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and drizzle in some olive oil. Add the diced yellow onion, jalapeño, and bell peppers, then sprinkle in the brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 15 minutes until soft and beautifully caramelized.
Burger Patties Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with bacon bits and about three tablespoons of the prepared BBQ sauce. Mix gently and form into eight equal patties, making a slight dimple in the center of each.
Burger Patties Cooking
  1. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side, checking the internal temperature for doneness at 155-160°F. Add cheese in the last minute of cooking.
Burger Assembly
  1. Toast the burger buns lightly. Assemble by placing a patty on the bottom bun, layering the caramelized onions and peppers, and adding bacon on top. Drizzle with remaining BBQ sauce and cap with the top bun.
