  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste can replace with crushed tomatoes if needed
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano preferably fresh
  • 1 teaspoon Basil preferably fresh

  • to taste Pepper
For the Cheese Mixture
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese cottage cheese as a lower-fat alternative
  • 1 large Egg can skip or use chia egg for vegan option
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese fresh mozzarella is ideal
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese can substitute with Pecorino Romano
For Assembly
  • 9 ounce Lasagna Noodles optional pre-cooked

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and Italian sausage until browned, then add diced onions and minced garlic; cook until onions are translucent. Drain fat.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper; let simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Combine ricotta cheese, egg, and salt in a bowl until smooth.
  5. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella; repeat layers finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for another 25 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  7. Allow lasagna to cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
